In this short video, I talk through what’s happening in Iran right now, and the uncomfortable conversation many of us in the U.S. are avoiding. Hundreds may have been killed amid mass protests, internet blackouts, and a collapsing economy. This isn’t abstract geopolitics; it’s people bleeding in the streets. I wrestle with how to hold two truths at once: America’s long history of foreign policy blowback, and the intellectual dishonesty of pretending U.S. pressure never matters simply because we don’t like who’s in office. This isn’t about praising or excusing anyone. It’s about refusing to flatten reality, resisting moral laziness, and remembering that acknowledging outcomes is not the same as worshiping power, especially when real lives are at stake.
