Studying history is a steady reminder that policy never sleeps. It hums in the background with a silent, persistent, and devastatingly effective roar. It can feed children or starve entire city blocks of infrastructure. It can save the planet or just save a contract.

Policy is the monster under the bed: a shapeshifter in a Brooks Brothers suit. As kids, we feared the boogeyman. As adults, we get budget line-items. Less Don’t Look Under the Bed, more Monsters, Inc.

And right now, tariffs are policy’s loudest whisper.
