A pretty solid 40% of the population is hard core MAGA. Polls show it as do election results. It is said that MAGA is a cult, well in that regard, all religions are cults.
The cults will vote for their cult leader regardless, he can do no wrong in their eyes.
There are two counties that house employees of Washington D.C., Arlington and Fairfax, They voted Democratic yesterday, but voted for Youngkin in the last election.
The vote for Youngkin was obviously cultural. McAuliffe sided with teachers on the education issue, Youngkin sided with parents.. The right wing has made education a wedge issue, especially as regards gender identity, And although the gender identity issue affects less than .0001 of the population. Trump and the Republican party have made it into a salient issue, along with immigration, because Americans are basically lazy thinkers and asleep at the switch.
But this election the attack on government hit home, there are a lot of newly employed in Arlington and Fairfax County, and unemployment affects more than the employee, as every dollar spent by a government employee, goes around 7 times in the local and national economy.
It isn't just the clerk in the office who gets hurt, it is the local restaurant, bar, drug store, Old Navy clothing store, etc.
The thing tis though, is that the maddened masses, don't realize that they are taking a hit, until it is too late and thus millions vote against their own self interests.
Trump was elected because of a culture war. But apparently is being undone because of economics.
Here is something to mull over. Passiac County, NJ went for Ciatrelli Repuclican for governor 59.2%, it also has the largest Hispanic population, larger than whites and blacks, in not only the state and neighboring states:
Passaic, NJ has a large Hispanic population due to its history of attracting immigrants from Central and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean, particularly since the 1970s. This migration was driven by the city's proximity to New York City, a rich economic history, and its relative affordability compared to the city, making it a popular "secondary-step" destination.
Why did a county with such a large Hispanic population, go for a Republican, considering Trump's war on Hispanics.
Trump did capture quite a bit of the Hispanic vote in 2024, Why? What is the appeal of minorities for white racists? There is something there, after all it was the minority vote, Trump would not have been elected were it not for the Muslims, Hispanics and Blacks that voted for him.
In the south, outside of cosmopolitan, centers, in the heartland (fly over country, rural America)
people do vote the culture war, not their economic interests. Farmers who have been hurt by Trump's policies, stay loyal to him, because of the culture war?
Though hardly any have any ever seen a minority except on TV, they are tweaked by local press and pulpit, the grange, the AmVets and VFW, Lions, Rotarian.it is a virus. I know, I have lived in that environment.I can only describe it as group think.
Whether it is economics or the culture war or both, depends on the region.
In NJ two other counties went Republican, Cape May and Ocean County, both counties have a large senior (convservative) population. I am familiar with those counties and NJ as well.
