That was a freaking amazing and inspiring story. This kinda essay with the personal family history revealed makes ya say to yourself, “They need to make a movie about this”.

My mind went to a darkplace. 1929 America, a black politically active lawyer. You aren't a celeb, but I think that yo are a great candidate for Finding Your Roots. with Dr Louis Henry Gates Jr.

You can do some search yourself of the familysearch.org archives, it is free, just register, it would help if you knew his first name, not just initial and date of birth (approx)

Based on your narrative, I searched the 1920 Census for a J Davis, Found one, a laborer, in Allegany County, Cumberland, Ward 1. There are other Black male Davis's, but this is only one from Maryland..

By the way my avocation is Genetic Genealogy.

I like the Deuce Davis name … nice ring to it … and its origin story.

We skip like a flat rock across a calm river so fast these days, only to sink in the end, that it’s nice to hear someone attaching deep meaning to something. This sentence hit me: “Many of us have come to take for granted the liberal wins that our ancestors fought for at the grassroots level, often invisibly, often without ever being remembered by name.” Welcome to your new brand and keep going!
