Democrats don’t seem to care about the Black vote. Look at how Jasmine Crockett was treated in the Texas primaries. Instead of voting an attorney, who was a bold and brilliant fighter in Washington DC, they voted for the good “Christian” school teacher with no national experience. He was a better candidate simply because he was White. Dems didn’t care about spitting in the face of the Texas Black community, after all who else would they vote for? Black voters need to teach the white supremacists in the Democratic Party a lesson on how to treat their base.

Here is the reality in America. Black person wins the primary, black person loses the general.

The party courts the black vote and loses the white vote. That's the reality of America.

If blacks are the base of the Democratic party, then the Democratic party will be forever the loser.

What do you think DEI is about, Hegseth firing black generals and admirals and not promoting black Colonels to General.

BE pragmatic, confront the reality of America's racism, but don't accuse whites in the Democratic party of being white supremacists, you aren't shaming them, you are telling them that no matter what they do, they will be slandered and not appreciated.

I am a DEI progressive, but accuse me and I will tell you to go fuck yourself, shove it up your arse, for being an arrogant ingrate.

Only children demand to get all they want, and now

There are supremacists of every color. How about Rwanda, where the Tutsis, massacred the Houtsis, because the perceive them as a different race. And Yes they did, they could tell them by the shape of their nose, head and stature.

Blacks are 13% of the population, and if they are the base of the Democratic Party as you say, then the Democratic party will never win an election., and that is just fine with MAGA.

I think there were real problems with Crockett’s candidacy. Still, I can look at the way some folks on social media treated her and say that it was uncalled for.

Really? Specifically what problems did you note with her candidacy?

Lalisa, please look at the updated post. Substack published the comment while I was in the middle of writing and editing it.

I replied to your updated message.

The way she was campaigning also heavily prioritized turnout over persuasion, but in Texas that does not work.

I think she had worked herself into a place with high negatives with voters who might be disillusioned with Trump or candidates Cornyn or Paxton and might otherwise be open to not voting or voting for a Democrat, and I think at times the way she campaigned could come across as divisive.

There is also the way that her campaign focused, particularly early on, much more on the (very real) obstacles to do with misogynoir that she had to overcome to get into office, rather than on what issues or her personal values were. Yes, she did a good job of outlining her fighting record, but the impression many folks had was that she was a fighter but they couldn’t necessarily tell you what that fight was for.

Talarico’s campaign posted much of his intended policy and class conscious, faith based messaging early, and also did a good job with Latino outreach and persuasion work. So there is a major contrast.

Also, Talarico was far more independent of special interest money, which contrasts a bit with Crockett where there were some free trips to Israel paid for not by AIPAC but by a more obscure organization with many of the same donors and she softened her rhetoric around Israel for awhile, which is a major moral and political issue of our time, whereas Talarico removed himself from any such position to wobble in that way.

Edit: Substack posted this while I was trying to write and edit this comment which is why I did not like it.

This sounds like excuses the white supremacists in the Democratic Party would make.

Talarico was fully funded with super PAC money, despite all the lies he continually tells about that. He also took money from a Trump mega donor, and AIPAC supporter Miriam Adelson. But none of that mattered to Texas Dems because he is white.

If elected he will be another Dem centrist that will be worthless in Washington. He will be beholden to AIPAC and the billionaire class just like the Republicans, because that’s his donor base.

The Texas primaries proved to me that racism is more important to Americans than democracy. They still haven’t learned the lesson from the 2024 presidential election yet.

In short, Americans haven’t suffered enough to value the fight for democracy, racism is still more important. So no matter what illusions Americans may have about the 2024 midterms, the suffering and pain will continue until that lesson is learned.

I understand that. The updated version that includes the whole of what was supposed to be in the comment before Substack rudely interrupted my attempt to edit the comment on my phone provides the additional context as to why people felt that way in terms of some stuff in her record. I will also point out that while there were definite issues during the race I think that the way in which Crockett campaigned actively turned off many white leftists, and really did not seem to appeal much outside of the Black community. There are some younger black folk who have point this out.

Talarico, by contrast, was first elected during the 2018 wave in a district that was Republican Controlled for 30 years prior to his election. He had to reach across communities. But it also means he has more political legislative experience than some of his critics implied and is famous for faith based, Ossoff-type takedowns where he lets right wing Christian Nationalists cook themselves with their own contradictions.

I live in Texas and have voted for Democrats in every election since I was 18 years old. I will NOT vote for James Talarico. He spit in the face of the Texas Black community and I intend to remind the community of that.

Dems can’t disrespect Black voters in March and expect their vote in November. #NeverTalarico

Why would any Black person see Trump as helping us with equality. Trump associated DEI with Black People being unqualified. Trump's whole cabinet is DEI. You know his administration is grossly unqualified. Thanks
